There are few sensible choices of glass hip flasks but thankfully this Oak & Ember product is not only practical and robust but it keeps my whisky tasting good.There is a huge choice of hip flasks that are made from stainless steel or pewter and yet those types recommend that you don’t keep your chosen spirit in them for more than a day. Spirits can pick up a metallic flavour if stored in metal flasks for too long and I have to say that doesn’t fill me with confidence that a drink from such a flask will be enjoyable.So this glass Oak & Ember Flight Flask seemed worth a try. Although I don’t regularly carry whisky on me, there are definitely occasions when the “need” arises. Such as when I’m able to liberate a quantity of Johnnie Walker Blue Label from an airport lounge for example…The glass flask is encased in black silicone which protects it from damage. The windows on opposite sides allow the reassurance that your chosen beverage is where you left it. One window has useful markings to show the standard UK single measure of 25ml and (more importantly!) the 50ml double measure. Although the listing describes the overall capacity of the flask as 100ml that is actually the amount of liquid you can fit in the flask when it is filled right to the brim. A more realistic capacity is 90ml which brings the liquid to within a five millimetres of the cap; overfilling the flask obviously results in spillage when opening.The silicone jacket is removable which can presumably help with cleaning. Whether it is supposed to be removed or not isn’t clear as this feature is not described in the listing.It has a neck that is wider than many flasks making it easy to fill from a bottle without needing a funnel. The neck also sits proud from the silicone jacket so I can drink directly from the flask but it also pours well. The lid is made from food-grade polypropylene and seals the flask tightly without leaks.This flask is well-made, looks good, is comfortable to hold and is small enough to put in a jacket pocket or small bag. Although I’m marginally disappointed with the slight loss of capacity, I’m really pleased with it overall and recommend it if you want to treat you favourite tipple with the respect it deserves!
